Unit 6: Digital Print Production |
In this unit, students use digital software and creative thinking to produce and develop a range of graphic outcomes for print purposes. Students learn about the theory of visual communication such as, colour, typography, copy, layout and hierarchy. Students use industry standard software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Procreate, Dimension and Aero, producing high quality print outcomes such as packaging, advertisements, social media graphics and promotional merchandise. This unit prepares students for a career in Graphic Design or Digital Illustration. |
Unit 8: Animation Production |
Animation is used for many purposes in the digital design industries including entertainment, advertising, video games, music videos, mobile phones and websites. Students learn about traditional and modern animation techniques such as stop motion, rotoscope, kinetic typography and CAD. Afterwards, they’ll be given a design brief that encourages them to create their own animated short using a technique of their choice, plus iPads and digital software such as Adobe Photoshop, Animate, Aero and Procreate. This unit prepares students for a career in Motion Graphics or Animation. |
Unit 9: Web Production |
In this unit, students design a prototype website in response to a design brief. Students learn about the theory of UI & UX, which is a key topic in this module. Students compare existing websites that serve different purposes, analysing the key features including page layout, use of motion, accessibility and call to action buttons. Application of this knowledge and understanding is later used to develop a website that functions appropriately and considers user experience (UX) alongside graphics interface design (UI). The final outcome is produced using Adobe XD alongside other digital software, used to produce original assets. This unit prepares students for a career in Web Development or UI/UX Design. |
Unit 1: Research for a Digital Media product |
This unit is an assignment set by the exam board that is internally assessed. The unit focuses on research techniques. Students use a wide range of research methods to investigate a solution in response to a design brief. Through analysis of existing solutions and the development of new ideas, students propose a final outcome. In BTEC Digital Design, this unit will focus on digital marketing techniques and the promotion of products and services through digital channels. Students learn about digital marketing theory alongside industry processes, including the development of innovative solutions and pitching to a client. This unit prepares students for a career in Digital Marketing or Project Management. |
